In order to urge enterprises to put workplace epidemic prevention into practice, the Minister of Labor, Hsu Ming-Chun, accompanied by the Magistrate of Hsinchu County, Yang Wen-Ke, went to Hsinchu County to visit the Hukou factory of Uni-President Enterprises Corporation and the Hsinchu factory of Yamaha Motor Taiwan Co., Ltd. on May 4, 2020, showing care regarding the workplace epidemic prevention work. They also went to the dormitory to get to know the management of foreign migrant workers' life and epidemic prevention measures. They reminded employers to implement workplace epidemic prevention work, so as to ensure the sustainable operation of the enterprise and maintain the workers’ safety and health.

In light of the recent cases of clustered infection involving migrant workers in Singapore, Minister Hsu recently instructed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Workforce Development Agency to strengthen cooperation by implementing workplace epidemic prevention measures and migrant workers' life management for large enterprises employing foreign migrant workers, so as to assist enterprises to implement workplace epidemic prevention. In particular, migrant workers come to work in Taiwan, contributing greatly to our country’s industry and manpower in caregiving. However, due to language barriers, it is not easy for them to obtain the latest epidemic prevention information in real time, resulting in a gap in epidemic prevention. Therefore, they will need assistance from the government and enterprises. Minister Hsu paid special attention to the management of workplaces, employee restaurants and foreign migrant workers’ dormitory and multi-language epidemic prevention key announcements. She also reminded and encouraged employers and intermediary companies to give proper life care to migrant workers, put life management into practice, and protect their related rights and interests, so that migrant workers can work with a peace of mind.

Since the outbreak, the Ministry of Labor has stayed in line with the Central Epidemic Command Center’s overall epidemic prevention strategy, making “Guidelines for Workplace Safety and Health Protection Measures in response to COVID-19” as quickly as possible, to assist enterprises taking epidemic prevention measures based on workplace infection risk levels. After that, the MOL has made “COVID-19 Employment Guidelines, Migrant Workers Precautions for Work, life, and Going out Management,” providing guidelines as a reference for employers, agencies, and migrant workers to take measures.
