勞動部所轄新、舊制勞工退休及勞工保險、就業保險、職災保護專款、積欠工資墊償基金等勞動基金，原來分別由勞退基金監理會及勞保局負責投資運用。為使相關專業人力及資源能整合運用，發揮綜效，勞退基金監理會於103年2月17日改制為勞動基金運用局，並納入勞保局投資團隊，統籌各勞動基金投資運用業務，其中舊制勞退基金由臺灣銀行運用自營投資業務。此外，本局並接受衛生福利部及行政院農業委員會委託，運用國民年金保險基金及農民退休基金。
